Freehills Patent Attorneys announces qualifications of 3 patent professionals

Freehills Patent Attorneys is delighted to announce that Alexandra Angelatos and Jonathan Schnapp are now registered patent attorneys. Milena Dryza has passed all professional examinations required for registration as a patent attorney. This is an excellent outcome for our people and for our clients.

 

 

Alexandra Angelatos

 

Alexandra is a Patent Scientist within the Chem/Bio team where she is involved in drafting patent specifications, prosecuting patent applications and providing strategic patent advice.

 

Alexandra completed a PhD at the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, The University of Melbourne) under the supervision of Frank Caruso (Professor and Australian Research Council Federation Fellow).

 

Her thesis investigated a number of nanostructured colloidal systems, including light-responsive capsules for controlled delivery. Alexandra's research has been published in a range of international peer-reviewed journals and has been recognised through awards such as The Royal Society of Victoria Postgraduate Prize in Physical Science (2007) and the NanoVic Postgraduate Prize in Nanobiotechnology (2005).

 

 

Milena Dryza

 

Milena specialises in IP matters for the pharmaceutical and chemical science sectors. She assists her clients, including leading companies and universities, with commercially relevant advice and support at all stages of the patent life cycle.

 

Milena is particularly interested, and has had extensive experience, in the postallowance and post-grant space where she has been an integral part of numerous complex opposition, re-examination and litigation proceedings.

 

Milena achieved First Class Honours for her investigations into the structure-activity relationships between the UDP glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) family of enzymes and their substrates. Milena joined Freehills in 2008 following completion of her PhD in synthetic organic chemistry, in which Milena developed novel, stereoselective routes towards the synthesis of complex natural products.

 

 

Jonathan Schnapp

 

Jonathan developed a strong understanding of technology through his experience as an electronic engineer in medical device and scientific instrument companies. He also gained an understanding of commercial considerations in engineering though experience in project management, and he worked with in-house patent counsel to assist with invention disclosures and to develop design solutions to overcome competitor patents.

 

Before commencing in his present role, Jonathan led a team at a medical device manufacturing company to develop an electro-mechanical device for treating sleep apnoea. Jonathan also spent four-and-a-half years as an electronic design engineer at a multinational scientific instruments company. Jonathan’s projects included designing a high-voltage power supply for an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, and control electronics for a high-pressure liquid chromatography system.

 

Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours), majoring in electrical and computer systems and specialising in biomedical engineering, and a Bachelor of Science, majoring in physiology.
