About us

Freehills Patent Attorneys, a premier Australian patent attorney firm, is seeking a talented Accountant/ Analyst to join the Finance team in our Melbourne head office. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this newly created position will facilitate our improved strategic planning through increased financial and data analysis and reporting.

About the position

Working as part of a team of 4 in the finance team, supported by the COO, this role ensures all financial responsibilities and obligations of the firm are covered. In addition you will provide commercial and analytical support for specific projects, provide profitability and productivity analysis, develop reports and assist with annual budgeting and benchmarking projects. BAU responsibilities include supporting and/or executing GL, AP and AR functions, as necessary,  including review and improvement to processes and ad hoc analysis as requested by the COO.

Qualifications and experience

We are seeking a degree qualified accountant who is CA/ CPA qualified, ideally with experience in professional services firms (accounting, legal etc). This role is ideally suited to a hands-on all-rounder who is prepared to roll up their sleeves and can turn their hand to anything. A strong knowledge of accounting principles and advanced Excel skills (macros/modelling) is essential. You are strong on processes and are IT savvy so you can assist finance with systems implementations, interrogation and analysis of multiple databases and reporting improvements. 

Successful candidate profile

This opportunity is ideally suited to a results driven accountant who is organised, self-driven, has outstanding attention to detail and presents their work to a  high standard. Strong communication skills (listening, written, verbal) are important as is a capacity and a willingness to learn and engage with the business.
